If you think your kid doesn’t need to know your phone number…

If you think your kid doesn't need to know your phone number by heart these days, this happened today:

I received a call from a crying, frantic, young girl. She said something about a wrecked car and a broken phone. I said I couldn't understand and she put someone else on the line. It turned out to be a police officer from Mexico. He said the girl was in a car wreck and was trying to call her parents.

More details:

I asked for her name and he told me her first name. It wasn’t my daughter. I was relieved but felt awful not knowing any way to help.

The officer asked where in Arizona they had reached with the phone number they dialed and I told him, “Tucson.” He thanked me and hung up.
